Although there technically hasn't been an America since the crash of '99, when these heroes began working together in 2040 the press dubbed them JLA.This was the name of a pre-collapse comic book. The name stuck. So far, the JLA's main case has involved a shadowy force calling itself the Black Sun. They have also worked providing distaster relief. The JLA bases itself out of Powergirls satelite. When Cassandra Ravenborne, crown princess of the Iron Mountain, finished her tour of duty in 2001 she thought she had seen the last of Terra. Little did she know that 39 years later a series of unfortunate events would take her again to this primitive world. On the bug infested world of Delta 143 she lost her lifemate, encounted daemonic terrans wearing unkown military insignia, and emerged with a cursed Deamonblade. Fleeing reminders of her lover in Arcadia, she soon met up like minded allies on terra-seeking information on the Nephandus army known as the Black Sun. She soon discovered her sword was forged in the First World, before what we call the big bang. In the First World, she destroyed the Sword she found there-the paradox releaseing the Deamon Hannah, who proceeded to destroy the First World. It has been theorized that this paradox is what set our universe in motion. Returning with an empty sword, Raven continued her work hunting the Black Sun. In the process, she has enslaved many daemons into the Blade. Without her studies in meditation, it is likely that the Deamons in her sword could possess her. Raven is so centered she can actually make use of the Daemonic energies residing in her blade. Raven is a highly skilled scout trooper with extensive training in Arcadian Technology. Her armor is state of the art, she is also beginnig to gain serious notice from Emperor Auberon and the Great Houses of Arcadia. When the eccentric clockmaker Keagen Saav moved back to his old neighborhood in Santa Vena, it was a desperate-crime ridden slum. It was good fortune that as he set up his clock shop, a mysterious vigilante calling himself the Jackal arrived and started cleaning up the city. Both Keagons money and his alter eago's magic are helpful in revitalizing areas left abandoned since the crash of 99. Keagon is a former street kid, who was taken in by a kind Son of Ether who knew Keagon had the gift. To this day the Saav foundation donates more money to youth programs than any other charity. The Jackal may have never been born if Doc Brown had not been killed by a "ectoplasmic vibrational emotaton." Instead of becoming a full time researcher, Keagon began spending more and more time protecting innocents from those that would prey on them. The Jackal is an extremely versatile pattern mage, constantly providing his allies with any tools they might need to get the job done. He has recently discovered that his avatar has lead him to his conflict with the Black Sun. He must help abolish the old enemy, lest he fears the cycle of violence will continue forever. The Akashic rogue Maxine Manchester first joined in the War against the Black Sun through a favor to Karen Maceckny. Karen called in a favor from Felix, Maxine's mentor. Maxine was supposed to provide additional security for Raven; for when Kara helped discover the origins of the Deamon blade, Raven knew it would draw many enemies. But Maxine had already encountered some members of the group. She had fought against the Jackal and Phoenix to gain possesion of the Claw of the Elkhound. The rogue Akashic lost that day, and was intrigued by her competitors. Surely it was the synchronicity of Do that led her old mentor to ask her to join this group. Once Raven felt that the Sword crisis was over, she freed Maxine of any obligation. Maxine stayed on. A Blueskin to her core, she knew the team would face foes challenging enough to help her ascend. Maxine Manchester is an internalist mage, with great strength in Mind, Correspondence, and life. She seems to choose no great moral or political affiliation-just what ever leads her to the most severe challenges. In the past she has worked for Mystiques gang, Orb Industries, and the Black Knight. It should be said that she would never sell information on any group she had worked for/fought with, unless she had been treated dishonorably. Until recently, Maxine possesed an ancient chinese flintlock that had the power to destroy ANY spiritual entity. It was stolen by one of the Black Knight's Thor clones during their attempt to awaken the Lost Caern. Sheila Wantuchowicz is a sgt. in Duncan Maceckny's Free Legion, currently on special assignment with the JLA. She recieved her orders after Raven made contact with the Macecknys; her job being to safeguard Raven during the sword crisis. After the crisis past, she stayed on as a full member-much like Maxine Manchester. Sheila is a nuwisha, and a member of one of the many warrior sects calling themselves the Left Hand of God. Sheila is a fully trained combat operative, with extended training in security. Though not as prankish as most nuwisha, she still has the cunning of Coyote and his gifts. Even though freed from her bodyguard duties by Raven and her command, she still spends much of her time watching Ravens back. As for her warrior religion, it is to be noted that Selinda is the god she follows. This is a rarity for any left-hander, doubly so for one of the changing breeds. Zoe Eldritch-Maceckny grew up leery of her family. Convinced that they were like any other megacorp, making secret, world-shaking decisions for the "good of mankind." Trying to strike out on her own, she started selling weapons and info to rebels in the Coalition of States. One night she witnessed a fight between a psychopathic aberrant named Grond and Nova-Colorado's power-armoured champion. Grond crippled Nova, and would have killed her if not for Zoe's intervention. Zoe got Dr. Sheryl Ryan(Nova) to safety and patched up the Nova suit. She brought Grond to justice. Dr. Ryan found herself paralyzed for life, so she reluctently consented to allow Zoe to work for her. Soon Nova found herself working along side her cousin Powergirl, Phoenix, and Santa Vena's Jackal. The JLA was born. Nova is a competent fighter, yet her strength is as a scientist. Though not as brilliant as her mother karen, she has a strong grasp of quantum mechanics, engineering, and physics. The Nova suit facilitates flight, vacuum operations, and explosive plasma blast. It also incorperates several non-lethal deterrants such as a hypnostrobe. With her sister Myra, cousins Addison and Cara being on the team she finds it ironic that this was supposed to be her way to get away from it all. When Jack Crow was approached by Grifter and Ellen Sabine(a metis garou and a vampire), he was perfectly happy to help them have a kid.Until he found out what they wanted, a combination of the strengths of both species. The Crow tried to explain that it was hard enough to just get a healthy baby. The parents would not relent and the Crow knew they would go to a less competent mage. Addison Crexis grew up fairly normal, but a puberty the pain started. White hot garou rage met with cold vampiric bloodlust. With the constant pain came great strength and endurance. Addison soon realized that the burning pain would only go away when he was involved in violence. He adopted the name Warchild, and soon became one of the most feared mercenaries in the world. Warchild possess ungodly strength and stamina. Anti-tank ordenance has been known to bounce off his chest. He is also invulnerable to all spheres of magic. As his power continues to grow so does the rage in his soul. The JLA does it's best to keep him on a short leash, knowing that regardless of his karma he has made it possible to win some of their most difficult battles. It is rumoured that Malpheas itself has it's eye on him. Kara Zor-el Mackeckney, along with her brother Hunter, has the distinction of being one of the first "vampire children." Jack Crow, Archon, and Beto perfected a procedure using the time, life, prime, and mind spheres of magic. After fertilization the twins were put in tanks, as their vampiric mothers could not physically carry them to term. The Crow has attributed Kara's powers to the "infinity engine copper alloy" that he used for Cara's gestation matrix. Kara has become a solar battery of sorts. When the solar energy is not being used to fuel her flight, strength, and stamina powers she can expel it in a large radius around her. Her powers set in at puberty, shortly afterword she could be seen giving disaster relief all across the globe. The Press took to calling her Power Girl. She recently has become engaged to Prince David Gwydion of the United Kingdom. When not in London or out patroling, Kara can be found in her space station. She has allowed the League use of the station, especially it's complex lethetic intelligence engine, Mother. Myra Eldritch-Maceckny's life has changed suddenly and drastically. It had long been thought that her father's friend, a water nymph, had died after being captured by the antideluvian Joshua. He had wanted the sprite for it's magical properties:water-the source of all life. This all happened long before Myra was born. During her last year of highschool Myra began manifesting water related abilities. Her father's colleague Clarise Jennings, noticed she also had the sight. Clarise began training her as a Shaman. This training was cut short when Clarise was killed by an attack from the Black Sun. It was revealed that the Black Sun wanted Myra: she was the sprite reborn and they needed her life for a Nephandus ritual. Myra joined the JLA to take the fight back at them. Duncan Mackeckny designed a ritual that would prevent anyone from using her this way. It would bond her soul with the energy of the sun, tainting the purity of it. When the ritual was complete, Myra found she now had nuclear plasma abilities as well as water. Myra is a competent fighter and a master piano player. She can take the form of plasma or water. She can also manipulate these energies around her in a variety of ways. Though she is not a true mage, she is an expert ritualist. The spirits like her because they sense she is kindred. Some have said she is death-aspected; her destiny is to be a psychopomp, escorting the spirits of the restless dead to a better place. Mahabret Wang grew up the only daughter of two archeologist, never spending more than a few years at any location. The assignment on Fabrique-Eurpa's Mars colony had to be the worst. Yet her parents made their biggest find here, when the family's crawler plunged into a sinkhole-discovering ruins of a Drazi outpost. Unfortunately her parents where killed by a malfunctioning Drazi meat processor. Mahabret would have also been killed, if this trauma had not caused her avatar to awaken. She found a strange Drazi crystal, and with alien thoughts coursing through her mind she made it back to the colony. Her hair had turned white. A few days later she shipped back to earth, first staying with her maternal grandparent then eventually taking an apartment above a small shop run by a Rokea(a were-shark). She had a chance encounter with Raven and Nova which led to her studying under Bjorn Eldritch. This also led to her joining the JLA. Recently, it was revealed that her crystal talisman was very powerful indeed. An eighth dimensional being called it a worlygogg, a mirror of the universe that could be used to manipulate reality. When the whole martian colony was threatened, Mahabret used the worlygogg to make things right. She not only prevented the destruction if the colony-she made it to where her parents had never died. Only the team members remembered her previous association with the JLA. She still doesn't understand the worlygogg, and can only use it's vast power on a limited scale. Mahabret is a competent fighter and accomplished archeologist. She has an expert understanding of the esoteric spheres, such as entropy and prime. She has made some deal with Hunter Maceckny, and it is rumoured she works for him.
Cid Lightsy was a career cop who had advanced to field commander of a division of Denver's Special Crimes Unit. One day a bust on a drug-lab went incredibly wrong. The dealers and his unit were killed in an explosion, but Cid was saved by a phoenix necklace his Choktah mother had given him. The department conducted an investigation on the incident. They fired Cid, using him as a public scapegoat for this and even unrelated problems the department was having. Soon afterwords, Cid starting having strange experiences...time would seem to slow down...he would awake from a dream of flying to find himself hovering above his bed. The chemicals in the lab and the necklace had somehow caused him to become an aberrant. Cid donned a mask and soon the Phoenix became the terror of Denver's underworld. He murdered and stole from the criminals, disgusted by what a life by the book had got him. He used the blood money to start his own detective agency. When Phoenix began tracking a new designer drug it led him to the Black Sun and, ultimately, the JLA. Phoenix has recently left the JLA to appease his totem for killing an innocent. He must find the reclusive Gurhal(were-bear) Jackie Fishcatcher, and serve him for a time. Phoenix is an expert fighter and detective. He can fly, alter time, and move at amazing speed. His phoenix necklace has healing properties. Vanessa Crow was always a whirlwind of energy. She was also everywhere she was not supposed to be. She hasn't changed much. She has been a lifelong friend of the Macecknys, especially Kara, Zoe, Myra, and Bill. Y.T., as she likes to be called, always knew where the real action was. Born rich, she has taken a variety of jobs just for the action: courier, drug-dealer, activist. Being her best friend, Zoe told her about her activities as Nova. Y.T. was thrilled and helped her with a wealth of contacts and criminal knowledge. When the JLA dissapeared into the Greylands, Y.T. decided to go help Dr. Shery Ryan in the Coalition of States. After a while, Dr. Ryan realized that there was a lot more to this "smart-mouthed punk" than she had thought. With mounting problems in the Coalition and still no sign of the JLA, Ryan agreed to build her a suit. Y.T. is a superb athlete with a lot of natural ability. Her ability to blend in no matter the social circle is uncanny. The Pink Lightening suit facilitates flight, vacuum suport, and cyberkinesis. It's weaponry consist of plasma bolts, plasma emulation, and pinkgoop for crowd control. The Pink Lightening suit is faster than the Nova model, but the Nova packs more of a punch. Y.T. is a superb undercover operative. She ends up playing the court jester in the JLA, especially when it's members are arguing. Hunter Rose Maceckny matured in a mirschan tank supervised by Archon. He has displayed no sign of abberation, though there are several rumours of abilities involving the emotions of others and his uncanny powers of observation. Both him and his sister were groomed to take Duncans place as the defender of Gaia. Though both have advanced metaphysical and administrative skills, it soon became evident to all that Hunter was destined to take up his fathers legacy. Duncan embraced his son in 2040, soon giving him full responsibility at the UN and with the spirit contracts of the family. He has been noted to have a high degree in celerity, thaumatagury, and auspex. Though not an official member Hunter has contributed aid to the League. Holi describes herself as a sixth dimensional, hydrogen cluster awareness who's here on vacation. She is the Jackal's familiar(though he prefers the term assistant). Her body is a hardlight, self-sustaining weave designed by the Jackal. She has agreed to serve the Jackal for an indefinite period of time. Keagan has uploaded Holi with medical, linguistic, and mechanical training. Holi's knowledge of different planes of existence has proved very valuable to the JLA against entities such as the vorejeg and the Black Knight. With Kara's permission she has modified some of the systems aboard the satelite. She gets along well with mother, who she treats like a younger sibling. |
